Ok, this might not be fair, but I do think that this is the best thing Josh Schwartz has done since season two of The OC ended. Let’s face it, the last seasonish of The OC totally sucked. So tonight, on The CW, his next series premiered. Rumour has it that at first Gossip Girl was targeted as a feature film starring Lindsey Lohan, but after that all blew over [or rehabbed over, respect], the idea was given to Josh Scwartz to develop as a television series.
For those of you who missed it here’s the basic formula of the pilot. A bunch of good looking actors and actresses try desperately to convince you they’re in high school while looking approximately twenty three. They don’t succeed at this attempt, at all, but they do suck you into another never ending storyline filled with mysterious histories, more high school drama than all the current high schoolers in Manhattan put together, and quite a bit of innuendo and outright sex. So basically think it’s The OC, set in New York, with a certain clairvoyant Gossip Girl web personality narrating it all [watch out Morgan Freeman, this kid has got talent]. As hard as that might be to stomach [almost as hard as realizing that Hype has yet to figure out what’s up with my site] by the end of the pilot episode I had decided, “yeah, I’ll watch that.”
