Arcade Fire : Live On KCRW

The kids of Arcade Fire are awesome.  They also span quite an impressive range of heights.  Sorry for cutting you off there love, that’s just the way it is.  Anyway, I get quite a few requests to repost old material every week in email format.  Some songs and artists get requested once, some two or three times, but only one post of mine consistently comes up and is requested again and again {probably once every ten days or so}.  For all the lovely readers who’ve wanted to see these tracks once again grace the interwebs, here is the moment you’ve been waiting for.

mp3 : Arcade Fire - Intro (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Wake Up (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Neighborhood #4 (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Vampire Forest Fire (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Interview (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Intervention (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Born on a Train (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - In the Backseat (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Outro (Live on KCRW)

All the tracks in one zip file : here {zshare = left click}

For those of you who are interested this recording was made January 17th of 2005 and it is quite amazing.  It’s worth listening to it just for the alternate version of Intervention {and the rest of the tracks are equally compelling}.  *It’s also worth noting, and Win Butler says so quite clearly, that Born on a Train is a Magnetic Fields cover.  Cheers.

Much thanks goes to KCRW for consistently putting amazing music on the internet.  If you’ve never been to their website that simply must be changed.   Click on through and have a listen to the Morning Becomes Eclectic archives.  You’ll love it.

Seven Days of Sufjan Stevens part 4

Welcome back to day four in the massive run of Sufjan Stevens tracks. I hope you’re enjoying this little endeavor I’ve undertaken, but more importantly I hope you’re learning to love Sufjan in a new or deeper way. The man is a modern day musical genius. He can capture hearts like no other composer and although he has spawned a massive wave of talented musicians there are relatively few that can hold a candle to the particularities of Sufjan.

Today the tracks I’m bringing come from another radio performance Sufjan did in the year two thousand and five. Yesterday I put up his set from KEXP, and today I’m posting his set from another great radio station, KCRW. {Now if only I could find a performance from WOXY I would have covered the trifecta of great American Radio} If you’ve never been to site for KCRW you should check it out. They offer an amazingly complete listening archive where you can listen to old shows, programs, and generally anything of merit they’ve ever broadcast. If you dig their programs please take a moment and support their fine station. And as a side bonus, if you support them now, you’ll be entered in a drawing to win trips to Rome, Australia, or to drive away with a Smart Car.

The tracks here below were originally broadcast in a show entitled Morning Becomes Eclectic hosted by the indelible Nic Harcourt. If you’d rather listen to a stream of the show you can find that here on their site. Below the show is posted in the correct track order for the performance.

Arcade Fire

A long time ago I posted the fully performance that The Arcade Fire did for KCRW. It crashed the file host that I was currently using not just for me but for all their customers. Then I posted it again using a new and improved file host. They banned my account for life. A third file host took the files, watched me eat all of their bandwidth, and promptly upgraded servers conveniently losing my files and all the links along with them.

Let us hope and pray that this time is different. What you’ll find below is the entire segment that The Arcade Fire did for KCRW. A couple of the tracks are intros and interviews and as such aren’t musical tracks. Although they’re all worth downloading. Enjoy the music and welcome back to The World Forgot.

mp3 : Arcade Fire - Intro (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Wake Up (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Neighborhood 4 (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Vampire Forest Fire (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Interview (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Intervention (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Born on a Train (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - In the Backseat (Live on KCRW)
mp3 : Arcade Fire - Outro (Live on KCRW)

Why is it that most of the musical talent seems to have come, as of late, from outside of the States? Or has it always been this way?

Arcade Fire

We’ve all heard the buzz surrounding the new Arcade Fire album due out in 2007. And if you’re even one half as excited for it as I am you’re ready to buy the disc the day it hits the stores. My only fear is that it will lack the intensity, the sense of play that made their debut, Funeral, such an amazing album.

Anyway, here’s to hoping the long wait between albums has allowed them to skip right over the dreaded sophomore slump. Enjoy the music, the first nine tracks is the live recording off of KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic show. And I must say these songs sound amazing. The last track posted here is the new Arcade Fire single entitled Intervention as heard on BBC 1.
