The Box Social is a four piece band out of Wisconsin and to be honest they’re pretty much the same as countless other contemporary radio friendly American rock hitting the airwaves right now. I would like to point out that they’re pretty much the same, but not exactly the awkward doppleganger everyone expects to hear when they tune in to Ryan Seacrest and the Top 40 countdown. And I can’t put my finger on what exactly sets their sound apart from the pack, be it ever so slightly. Maybe it’s only my cheery subconscious screwing with me on this gorgeous afternoon, tinting everything slightly rose coloured. Maybe I just needed to hear a song start with more cow bell {see Hot Damn! below}. Or maybe it’s just that everything sounds spot on on their latest album, Get Going (amazon) (itunes).

I’ll be the first to admit that most of my musical taste strays far and away from the radio friendly music most of the world seems enthralled with. And to be honest these guys might never make it due to the lack of a massive PR engine pushing them to the top. But I sense a real talent in these songs. I really love the song Hot Damn! and I don’t care what you think.
