Welcome welcome welcome to a new series I hope to be posting at the end of each month. Some of you are already aware that I have a Best of the Month (BOTM) series that I maintain here on The World Forgot, but this is something new. I present to you Best of the Remix, or BOTR for short. I’ve noticed a wonderful trend lately that has made the remix of a popular song almost as ubiquitous as the original recording. It seems as if anyone with a laptop and a few spare hours manages to remix, reblip, or rework a song into something new. Now, granted, not all of these remixes are any good, but how are you to know the good from the bad? That’s where I come in. Presented here for your listening pleasure are the best remixes I heard during the previous month. Enjoy these tracks and come back next month for vol 02.

And for fans of my Gossip Girl series fear not, vol 09 will be posted later today or early tomorrow. After all I do have three volumes to go to catch up. Also, later this week I’ll be posting my best albums of the year. You might be a little surprised at my choices {as in you might have never listened to my number one and two slots}.

For as long as I can remember Christmas in my life has been allowed one album and one album only. That being the quintessential Andy Williams Christmas Album (iTunes). In all the vast reaches of this great universe no other single voice sings Christmas songs in the way that Andy can. And when he wasn’t singing Christmas songs he was doing some other notable work. He’s preformed with Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Mama Cass, Michael Jackson, and Simon and Garfunkel. His talent had such depth that President Ronald Reagan declared his voice a national treasure. Although I’m not entirely sure what that is worth considering he old Ron also created ‘Reaganomics.’
I’ll let you decide. Here are my favorite tracks off of what is, to me, the only Christmas album worth owning. Maybe his voice really is a national treasure.

{stay tuned, starting tomorrow, as I unleash the fury that is “Seven Days of Sufjan Stevens” as well as a veritable cornucopia of essential Christmas music}.
Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams

Frank Sinatra rounds out the top three all time Christmas Albums. Although I’ll always love Frank I’m not sure if his lounge singer act will ever trump the likes of Bing Crosby or Andy Williams. Maybe he was too much of a vagabond to ever really corner the market on something as traditional and respected as Christmas. Regardless as to the reasons he’s not my favorite he still has the standard Sinatra pinache and it puts an interesting spin on some classic songs.

[up next : seven days of sufjan, one stop shop]

I’ll be honest; I love Bing Crosby, the newest Sufjan Stevens Christmas music is incredible, but my heart’s favorite will always be Andy Williams. The songs in this post hark back to the days when bands were big, variety television shows were bigger, and vinyl was the only way to hear your tunes. Vinyl is actually how I was introduced to Andy Williams. My father had the Andy Williams Christmas album on LP and we used to haul the old record player up from the basement the weekend after Thanskgiving to start listening to the man with a voice so smooth.
