Regina Spektor has a new album, entitled Far (amazon), that is set to be released in a few weeks on June 23. Leading up to that date Regina has gone on a small publicity push that has included dropping the first single, the haunting and somewhat melancholic Laughing With, onto her myspace page. I personally enjoy this track a lot. It’s lyrically clever, the melody is haunting and fits Regina’s voice perfectly, and overall the song is slightly depressing. Basically Regina has taken the matrix by which I measure a track and applied it to her entire song. I for one am hoping the remainder of the album is as good as Laughing With.

I’ve never really looked into Regina Spektor… is all of her stuff like this? I am now looking forward to June 23rd - hopefully the rest of the album follows suit. I’m impressed.
@Jon - i know, this track is brilliant.
@Andy - not all of her music is like this track. i would even go so far as to say that about 35% of her work is not even good enough to include on an album alongside this track… hopefully her new disc is filled with clever lyrics and beautiful songs such as Laughing With, but to be honest i’m not exactly holding my breath.

By the look of things, I’m about a week behind, but I do really love this song…I think its a shame that her stuff is so unreliable, because when she gets it right, its fantastic, which this song just illustrates perfectly. Interestingly though, I reckon its a grower, because I wasn’t that impressed when I first heard it, but after a couple of listens, I’m hooked.
I like the honesty in this song.
