I've never been a huge country fan but I was raised around it so I've always kept an open mind towards it. I love Taylor Swift's music and I think you might like some of it too if you checked her out. :)

Haha, 'argumentative morons.' Too true. And the story arc continues...

I'm not SO serious about Solange. Drastically less talented than big sis, the Queen Be, but still with 4 good, catchy songs of 13 on her disc. There's some throwback girl-group fun meets shameless pop pandering on there.

'Bitchfork' - can I use that? Great. Yes, their ratings are luda. What's the diff between 7.2 and 7.3, please? But I give them kudos, yes, for reviewing the likes of Ms. Badu, Estelle, and Lupe Fiasco. (But also no good: the seeming swipe in the direction of PASTE mag in Bitchfork's latest sorry write-up on Ryan Adams. Last: They really need to allow comments over there.)

uiacc, thanks for the wingmanning. Tart, you need to stay off the internets during study hall. Those be some drippy ballads! I admit she has underrated pipes, but maybe I miss the pop-hop days of "There You Go," etc. Oh, beginnings.

Oh come now! Pink has a fantastic voice, handles herself incredibly well, and has crafted an image that competes with the likes of Ashley Simpson, Kelly Clarkson, et al, while saying a big FU to them at the same time. I give her a lot of credit for that maneuver alone. At the same time, I really like her music and her song writing. Not all of her ballads work for me, some are just too heartfelt, but the dance tunes are incredibly catchy. She's a star, no doubt about it and a deserving one, unlike many who share her status in the industry. Kudos to you, Billy, for 'fessing up to liking her!
xoxo,

Really, though? PINK?! Im gonna have to side with jon on this one. How many times do I have to hear a song about how you don't like anyone else in your industry? I'd almost rather you go back to making songs about getting 'this party started'....**shudders**...no, scratch that.

i do love a good comment from my buddy jon {buddy probably doesn't begin to describe our friendship. the terms college roommates, brooding romantics, argumentative morons, and road trip shenanigans would probably help}. and you know, jon, i'm glad that you pointed out you didn't like my pink post, but then followed it up with all the music you listen to that i can't stand. solange? are we serious?

blogs are brilliant because no corporate sponsor/advert is telling me what to say, think, or promote. oh, and i can't believe you mentioned bitchfork in a positive light. yeah i provide a link to them in my sidebar {they give out free music, host a great festival every year, and sometimes have very exclusive performances and tracks} but their review process is so awkward. five years ago it was brilliant and cutting edge. now it just feels tired.

All right, I know this is filed under 'confessions' theme. But Pink? Ugh. Everything about her is dated. The Clarkson ripoff is shameless but not as catchy or likable. And how many times can a pop singer take a cheap shot at Jessica Simpson? As if that isn't, like W. Bush, one of the biggest moving targets on the landscape. Plus, it's Pink biting the bubblegum-pop hand that feeds her. And sure, she's freshly single, but according to a People-mag-reading pal, she still effs her ex. So basically everything about her is screwed up.

Pink's songs can go die somewhere. "Best music of her career" doesn't say much. Eagerly awaiting your regular posts.

To note, my recent 'confessions' include solo releases from Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child (We Break the Dawn, Hello Heartbreak) and Solange, Beyonce's li'l sis (T.O.N.Y., Would've Been The One). The latter got 7.3/10 at Pitchfork. Glad they give credence to funk/hip-hop over there. In the end, kudos to you here too for stretching the bounds of what can be good or at least enjoyable music. Forever maddeningly, wonderfully subjective.
