Actually, I read that they changed their name from Republic because there was already another act by that moniker.

More importantly, I wanted to add that there is a VERY OBVIOUS reason (in my opinion) for any band to spell their name in a unique fashion, and that is SEO (Search Engine Optimization). If you search "OneRepublic" you are GUARANTEED to find information about the band, and NOT the two words separately. Case closed.

And for the record, there will always be those repulsively distasteful "look-how-cool-we-are" names (Trapt, Korn, Staind, Limp Bizkit...huh, that's interesting... their all stoopyd "nu metal" bandzzz), but the subtlety of OneRepublic's space omission, I find quite tasteful.

Lastly, I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiments regarding the unreleased tracks. I feel quite exactly the same, and I find it painful that these songs haven't been fed to mainstream listeners. You also missed a few non-album tracks (Trapdoor, Hearing Voices, and Something's Not Right Here), although I gather that some (if not all) of these were released as bonus tracks on the album when purchased through various digital vendors (as was Dreaming Out Loud - which I have never seen spelled with an apostrophe).

OneRepublic is spelled as one word because it is more unifying than if it were with two words. They were just "Republic" before but they felt that that was a bit generic or common so they added the "One" to make them unique and unifying. You don't feel that "OneRepublic" looks better anyway? Also, it's not that they keep changing styles, but it is that they do not have a specific style or you could say that, that is their style: encompassing a bit of everything, taking in all influences which goes back to their band name which represents everyone.

It seems on "Sleep" that this Tedder guy's trying to sap his best Jeff Buckley impersonation for all its worth. Argh - I can't say I don't like it.
