Well it’s been a couple of weeks since the pilot for Gossip Girl aired on the CW and in the intervening time I’ve watched more of Entourage season 2, listened to the newest albums from Dashboard Confessional and Foo Fighters, and wondered what movie to rent with all these free redbox codes that are google easy to find.
Anyway, the second episode of Gossip Girl contained a lot of music but not quite as much as the premiere. Considering there were over twenty songs used in that first episode I’ll admit that it will be hard to ever live up to that impressive, albeit slightly scattered, quota. In the second episode the music selection followed a similar path weaving together under appreciated indie and pop music with garbage dance hip hop. Yes, sorry, Rhianna is garbage. If they really want to include some fresh and well crafted dance hip hop style music then they should look into the likes of Girl Talk.

Definitely check out the track by Ferraby Lionheart and avoid the Rhianna track like the plague. I almost didn’t post it here but included it to attempt at being a well rounded and well read blogger. Also, I would check out the Rooney track and note that the lead singer of the band is the brother of Jason Scwartzman who originally played drums for Phantom Planet before dropping the music career to become fast friends with Wes Andersen and be a giant movie star. Well at least a giant movie star to people who watch good films.
it would be pretty much impossible to use Girl Talk tracks on a television show. there are so many samples that licensing it would be pretty much impossible, or at least INSANELY expensive.

I love Believe by The Bravery, after hearing it on Gossip Girl I had to buy it. I thought all of the music for the episode was really good, though I am not a huge fan of the Rihanna track. Thanks for a great post.

Heard a lot of about the show (live in the UK) and downloaded it over the wknd. Some really great tracks. Love believe by the bravery on episode two. never heard of the band before but downloaded the mp3 straight after.
Hey - most of these tracks aren’t downloadable any more… what happened?
a lot of these tracks were removed because of excessive {think in the terms of hundreds of gigabytes} of leeching of files. i don’t mind if people link to this blog or to specific posts, but when other sites allow their users to directly download music that is hosted here {and that hosting costs money} i take issue. if it’s a small infraction then i usually let it slide {especially with new bloggers}. when it’s a large site that directly links to files and then that file is accessed and/or downloaded over 10,000 times in a six hour period i remove the file. if you find these broken links from other websites please tell whoever runs that website not to direct link {hot link} to files hosted at other sites.
