Like, OMG, Gossip Girl

Ok, this might not be fair, but I do think that this is the best thing Josh Schwartz has done since season two of The OC ended. Let’s face it, the last seasonish of The OC totally sucked. So tonight, on The CW, his next series premiered. Rumour has it that at first Gossip Girl was targeted as a feature film starring Lindsey Lohan, but after that all blew over [or rehabbed over, respect], the idea was given to Josh Scwartz to develop as a television series.

For those of you who missed it here’s the basic formula of the pilot. A bunch of good looking actors and actresses try desperately to convince you they’re in high school while looking approximately twenty three. They don’t succeed at this attempt, at all, but they do suck you into another never ending storyline filled with mysterious histories, more high school drama than all the current high schoolers in Manhattan put together, and quite a bit of innuendo and outright sex. So basically think it’s The OC, set in New York, with a certain clairvoyant Gossip Girl web personality narrating it all [watch out Morgan Freeman, this kid has got talent]. As hard as that might be to stomach [almost as hard as realizing that Hype has yet to figure out what's up with my site] by the end of the pilot episode I had decided, “yeah, I’ll watch that.”

Besides, true to the early OC formula, they have a pretty killer soundtrack. It must be nice to have Alexandra Patsavas of Chop Shop Music as your musical coordinator. The only thing missing now is a segment of their official web site devoted entirely to what band and what song played in each episode. I’m sure that’ll happen soon.Anyone know what song that was played at the end? It sounded to me like a new track from Blink 182. Could it be? I know they were alleging a reunion album and tour either 2008 or 2009. But anyway, enough of that. Here’s some music to have fun with. I love their new album by the way, but I won’t spoil anything here with leaked tracks. Enjoy some older stuff they’ve done. Literally everything the Foo Fighters touch is wonderful.

The commercials here also had good music including two commercials featuring the amazing vocals of Ms. Regina Spektor.
